About Me

My name is Kirsten, I'm a 20-year-old art student from British Columbia, Canada. I love art, music, literature, philosophy, fashion, science, nature and video games among other things. I'm an idealist, without being ignorant, I try to be optimistic while still thinking critically. I can be very opinionated.

In my work I explore the idea of using not only imagery, but also materials and technique to convey a concept. I enjoy playing with juxtaposition using various methods, often involving the portrayal of beautiful images stemming from ugly or even horrific ideas.
I enjoy pushing the boundaries of traditional painting, drawing, and sculpture by continuing my experimentation of new materials and techniques. Colour is a device I use in my work to emphasize the expressive qualities I want to convey, often in contrast with the concept and imagery itself.

In my most recent work I am exploring the concept of entropy; order descending into chaos, I have been expressing this notion through the use of abstract, semi-representational, and representational images. When displayed together, these images portray a dystopic view expressing social entropy; a doctrine of inevitable social decline and degeneration, as well as the aftermath of this degeneration.
